Job Description

Title: Ink Technician

Reports to: Ink Lead

Summary: Under general supervision of the Ink Department Lead, participates as a member of the overall Press Team in the preparation of inks, solvents, and varnish to customer specifications, filling and replenishing supplies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS OVERVIEW:

According to Company policies and procedures, prepares production equipment such as dispensing ink, varnish, solvents and ink pumps. Verifies if solvents are sufficient. Assembles pumps to specifications and identify drum covers according to press unit, color and ink number. Keep all pumps in good condition.

Mix inks and solvents to specifications, filling and replenishing supplies as required. Replenish and adjust ink supply to press. Maintain consistency in color and viscosity.

Responsible for maintaining inventory of consignment and work-off inks completing all necessary paperwork to ensure able supplies.

Ensure ink viscosity by correctly timing flow from test cup according to standard. Observe performance of ink and give feedback to appropriate personnel.

Weighs and measures, according to formula, components for correct color pigment. Prepares new batches when necessary.

Maintains and follows all company policies and procedures for EHS, personal protection, and hazard materials/waste handling according to established guidelines.

Follows all personal protection procedures by use of appropriate personal protective equipment at all times while in designated areas and specific tasks requiring the use of PPE.

Follows established procedures and guidelines for the handling and disposal of all hazardous materials/waste.

Maintains and wears proper uniform according to company policies.

Use Company provided safety lifting equipment, i.e., hoist, jacks, vacuum manipulators, etc.

On a regular basis, examines work areas to keep it in a safe and neat condition, including but not limited to proper grounding, cleanup ink and solvent containers.

Properly stores and arranges work area to maintain cleanliness and safe environment following all safety rules and regulations for grounding, storage, spill clean-up, etc.

Effectively demonstrates the ability to maintain work area in a safe and proper working order including but not limited to cleaning press area, mopping floors, and emptying trashcans.

Assist Press Crew when required.

Ensure all required paperwork is processed in a timely and efficient manner. Responsible for clean up of ink dispensing equipment and general housekeeping of all work areas. Performs all tasks in accordance with safe work practices.

Follows all PPE according to Company requirements.

Promote positive employee relations and takes an active role in training, safety and quality.

Performs all other duties as may be required.

Requirements:

High School diploma or G.E.D. with 2 years experience in a printing/packaging environment.

Physical Demands:

Must be ability to lift up to 60 lbs is required.

This position may require prolonged periods of standing, stooping, bending and/or reaching, balancing, climbing, kneeling, crouching, reaching with hands and arms, hearing and speaking.

Must be able to hold, touch, feel and manipulate with hands product and

equipment in a safe manner. Manual dexterity is required.

Use of close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to rotate shifts as required.

Must be available to work in excess of 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week when necessary to meet customer product needs.

Must be able to work in repetitive functions as well as other duties as required.
