About this Role

The Assembly Process Technician Leader position is an important role on the Silgan Dispensing team and is a great opportunity for those looking to advance their skills. Our plant operates 24 hours a day and 5 to 7 days a week to help produce thousands of our dispensing products each day. So, it's important to keep it running efficiently and continuously. The Assembly Process Technician Leader keeps our equipment operational by setting up, optimizing production runs and performing quality checks as needed for each machine. That person also performs PM and makes improvements to the PM system, and provides leadership to the Optech and Assembly Mechanics. Here's a list of duties that our Assembly Process Technician performs on a typical day:

  • Responsible for the 1st

shift team's safe, efficient completion of the assembly process in a high quality and repeatable manner

  • Push team for on time completion of PM
  • Perform duties to complete a wide variety of complicated machine set ups (such as dip tube changes, mechanical parts change)
  • Perform quality checks/audits during a production run through visual inspection and aligned with the quality plan
  • Measure, examine and test assembly units to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance conditions. Adjust machine or fixtures as necessary.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on Assembly machines to maintain production equipment and reduce downtime.
  • Add to Preventative Maintenance Procedures as opportunities arise. Periodic review of existing procedure to ensure relevancy.
  • Creation of VWI and Procedure for repeatable results reduced training and standard work around machine operation, PM and setup. Set example for the team to do the same.
  • Identify efficiency improvement, cost savings and quality improvement opportunities.
  • Participate in EH&S reviews
  • Assist with CI activities as needed: root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Maintain accurate documentation of quality inspection results and production results
  • Ensure outgoing products follow required specifications
  • Escalates identified safety, quality, performance issues as may be needed.
  • Training and supporting of others within the value stream.
  • Supports machine disassembly
  • Troubleshoots issues beyond basic resets, being able to identify incorrect machine messages and determining root cause/corrective actions
  • Determines corrective actions on electrical parts or electrical related issues
  • Lead or participate in 5S and other lean kaizen opportunities. Drive Continuous Improvment
  • Use CAD to design, improve, or reverse Engineering tooling, mounting, or guarding needs.
  • Use of 3D printer or machining skills (lathe, vertical mill) to groom, make new, or repair machine tools.
  • Trouble shooting of electrical systems – servos, sensors, HMI, PLC.
  • Work with Engineering to Analytically come to root cause not just to repair a problem but to permanently fix it.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Candidates must have:

  • PLC, HMI control Coding
  • CAD (preferably solidworks)
  • Design for manufacture, Design for 3D print
  • Electrical and Electronic Controls troubleshooting, repair and replacement, and improvement
  • Knowledge of ISO system for documenting procedures, new drawings, or drawing changes.
  • Basic machine troubleshooting skills/ability to solve mechanical issues
  • Willingness to assist other cross-functional groups based on needs
  • Ability to work independently and be proactive
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and report data based on machine performance.
  • Min of high school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Ability to learn, grow and adapt to changing business needs.

Physical Demands (Reasonable accommodations provided):

  • Ability to lift and/or move 35 lbs.
  • Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) on the production floor.
  • Physical requirements include but not limited to sitting, standing, climbing, walking, lifting, carrying, pulling, pushing, stooping, crouching, color determination and grasping.
