Oregon State University Cascades is seeking a Division Head. This is a part-time (0.50 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.


The Division Head will work closely and collegially with the faculty and staff within their division to pursue the University's mission and strategic plan, effectively manage resources, ensure high quality educational experiences for students, faculty development and success, and ensure efficient Division operations.

The Division Head will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean, Associate Deans, Chancellor and Dean, and the OSU-Cascades leadership team on an ambitious growth agenda and will provide organizational and administrative expertise.

Key Responsibilities

90% Leadership and Administration

University and College

  • Represent the division and its programs to the university (Bend and Corvallis campuses) and local community. Maintain service to the university (Bend and Corvallis campuses), and profession through service on committees.
  • Serve as the division liaison with the associated colleges in Corvallis and other OSU administrative offices.
Campus

  • Strive to enrich OSU-Cascades' community of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Contribute to academic leadership team(s) or councils for the campus.
Faculty Leadership

  • Recruit, support, supervise, and evaluate instructional faculty in a portfolio of programs within the Division. Oversee promotion processes for instructional faculty.
  • Develop and assign workload distribution and teaching assignments for instructional and professorial faculty.
  • Partner with Associate Dean(s) in recruiting, supporting, supervising, and evaluating professorial faculty. Contribute to promotion and tenure processes for professorial faculty in collaboration with schools/colleges in Corvallis.
  • Support faculty professional development, mentoring, and advancement in teaching, research, and service.
Division

  • Maintain and enhance educational undergraduate and graduate programs and curricula within the division.
  • Provide fiscal management and strategic planning for the division and its programs.
  • Oversee division committees and lead division meetings.
  • Make division-level decisions regarding fixed-term appointment renewals.
  • Strive to identify and implement methods to increase enrollment, student retention and graduation rates within the division.
  • Identify and resolve problems; adjudicate disputes in partnership with the Office of the Chancellor and Dean.
  • Oversee physical resources within the division in collaboration with OSU Operations, including laboratories and other physical assets needed to safely deliver programs.
  • Advance relationships with industry, community, government, alumni, and/or other partners.
10% Other responsibilities as requested by the Office of the Chancellor and Dean.

What You Will Need

  • Relevant Master's Degree
  • Current appointment at Oregon State University as a tenured Associate or full Professor; clinical-track Associate or full Professor; Senior Instructor I or II; or Associate or full Professor of Practice.
  • Strong potential to demonstrate leadership in a higher education or academic setting.
  • A demonstrable commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as a record of mentoring and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, fostering positive and affirming faculty interactions across differences, or challenging structural/cultural barriers that limit movement towards socially just science education and practice.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated success in building strong interpersonal relationships internally and externally and promoting a collaborative culture.
  • Experience providing mentoring and/or professional development to others.
  • Experience with or understanding of academic faculty recruitment, retention, and promotion.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching, mentoring, advising and service commensurate with rank.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • A terminal academic degree from an accredited university.
  • Experience working within the OSU-Cascades organization structure.
  • Demonstrated success in leadership, team building, and management of complex programs, teams, or initiatives.
  • Past experience with university procedures involving promotion and tenure of academic faculty.
  • Supervision experience in an academic environment.
  • Established history of successfully mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, including those from populations that are underrepresented in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in building relationships across Cascades and Corvallis campuses of OSU.
  • Demonstrated success in academic program growth (new programs and/or expanding existing programs).
  • Past experience with fiscal management and/or academic strategy.
