Description:
Performed under the general direction of branch management, exercises professional skills serving as a Branch Librarian. Specific duties will vary based on branch size and area of responsibility.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provides reference and information services to library patrons.
  • Conducts research necessary to obtain sources of information.
  • Assists patrons in their search for library materials.
  • Participates in blogging and social media in support of library initiatives.
  • Maintains collection, including the shifting of books and displaying new materials.
  • Facilitates technical support and troubleshooting of library equipment.
  • Assists in planning and implementing Library programs and special projects.
  • Initiates and maintains community contacts.
  • Pursues professional development by attending meetings, workshops, and conferences.
  • Performs other clerical tasks upon request.
  • Serves the public by checking in and out library materials.
  • Facilitates access to the library's digital collection.
  • Responsible for collection maintenance duties.
  • Ensures circulation policies are followed for accurate library database records.
  • Sorts and inspects library materials received from other libraries.
  • Provides information to customers regarding the Library's circulation policies.
  • May promote services for the Talking Book and Braille Center.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • This job requires a Master's degree in Library Science or relevant field, or Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma plus 10 years of applicable experience, with at least five years at Kent District Library.
  • Ability to travel between work locations.
  • Working knowledge of public library operations and computer applications.
  • Considerable knowledge of available materials and reference sources.
  • Ability to work under general supervision and exercise independent judgment.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Analytical ability and physical skills necessary to retrieve library materials and operate equipment.
  • Computer skills required to access information.

Additional Information:
  • Will work within a normal office environment.
  • Requires occasional travel between KDL locations.
  • Work hours are varied, including evenings and weekend hours.
  • Extensive computer activity and in-person communication skills required.
