Position Title: Seasonal Food Service Associate
Company: Umatilla Morrow Head Start, Inc.

Description

Overview:
To ensure the well-being of children and staff by preparing and offering appealing USDA CNP approved meals. Maintaining a clean and sanitary kitchen and class areas is a primary focus, along with monitoring food stocks, supplies, and nutrition records. Account for monthly expenses in compliance with USDA CNP regulations and UMHS guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare nutritious and appetizing meals following UMHS menu and approved recipes
  • Manage nutrition records and receipts for USDA reimbursement
  • Procure food and supplies based on menu plans and seasonal availability
  • Drive agency vehicle for shopping purposes
  • Adhere to food safety protocols, including handling allergies and substitutions
  • Train new staff in meal service
  • Plan and facilitate classroom Nutrition Activities
  • Ensure a safe environment for children and staff
  • Collaborate with USDA and Head Start officials to meet program requirements
  • Complete dishwashing and kitchen cleaning tasks promptly
  • Dispose of garbage daily
  • Perform minor maintenance and janitorial duties when necessary
Qualifications

Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
Experience and Skills:
  • Valid Food Handler's card
  • Experience in preparing diverse foods for groups
  • Basic math skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Knowledge of early childhood nutrition
  • Ability to work with children
  • Record-keeping skills
  • Previous custodial experience
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform various physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods
  • Operate kitchen equipment and maintain cleanliness
  • Sensory awareness to ensure safety and sanitation
  • Manage inventory and supplies efficiently
Work Environment:
  • Work indoors under controlled conditions
  • Handle cleaning agents
  • Work closely with others
Safety:

Follow safety practices diligently
  • Report hazards and injuries immediately
  • Adhere to safety protocols
  • Participate in emergency drills
  • Promote a safe workplace culture
Agency Requirements:
  • Enrolled in Child Care Division's Central Background Registry
  • Pass physical and drug screenings
  • Valid driver's license and automobile insurance
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • COVID-19 vaccination required for employment
