Position: Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) at Apple

Apple's Software Delivery division seeks a creative Senior SRE adept at managing physical infrastructure and cloud solutions to craft, construct, and uphold our foundational infrastructure. This critical infrastructure empowers numerous Apple software engineers in creating products that captivate millions of Apple users. As a Senior SRE, your responsibilities will involve guiding and coaching fellow engineers, as well as interacting with senior management.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to grasp requirements and develop robust, scalable infrastructure solutions.
  • Play a key role in incident response to troubleshoot and resolve issues, reducing downtimes in a demanding, large-scale setting.
  • Establish monitoring and alerting mechanisms for early issue identification.
  • Assess and integrate new technologies to enhance system reliability, security, and performance.
  • Devise runbooks for incidents and problems.
  • Create and execute automation for provisioning, configuring, deploying, and monitoring infrastructure components.
  • Operate across multiple time zones.

Qualifications:
  • Over 5 years in Infrastructure Ops, Site Reliability Engineering, or DevOps-oriented roles.
  • Ability to independently manage cross-functional projects, define expectations, set deadlines, and drive projects to completion.
  • Experience supporting data center operations, distributed systems, and production services.
  • Profound knowledge of Linux and Unix systems.
  • Proficiency in deploying and managing infrastructure using configuration management tools like Puppet and/or Ansible.
  • Strong programming skills in Shell, Go, and/or Python.
Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field related to software/system engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Additional Requirements:
  • Preferred Experience:
  • Expertise in gathering and analyzing system metrics and logs to troubleshoot issues.
  • Experience in capacity planning, including power and cooling calculations.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach with a strong sense of ownership and determination.
  • Capability to implement telemetry using monitoring tools like Splunk, Grafana, and Prometheus.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure concepts such as zones, regions, and VPCs.
  • Comprehension of common authentication methods, certificates, and secure secrets management.
  • Previous leadership experience in SRE or operationally oriented teams.
  • Operational experience in managing 24x7 infrastructure at scale.
  • Hands-on experience in on-premises Data Centers with large-scale infrastructure.
  • Prior experience collaborating with software development teams for large-scale software deployment.
Compensation & Benefits:
  • At Apple, the base pay is a component of the overall compensation package and is determined within a specified range. This allows for progression as you advance and develop in your role. The base pay range for this position falls between $160,700 and $282,500, with actual pay depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
