Nursing Supervisor Position at Metropolitan Detention Center Bern Co Contract


UNM Hospitals is part of the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP). Depending on your Nursing Education and National Certifications, you'll work towards one of five CAP levels that offer increasing compensation.

As a Nursing Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Using independent judgment to assign nursing personnel and staff to specific patients
  • Designating shift and schedule assignments; assigning duties within the scope of staff qualifications
  • Supervising and directing staff providing patient care, being accountable for care provided
  • Acting as a liaison between physicians, staff, patients, families, and other departments
  • Developing an efficient organizational structure, supervising employees and encouraging staff teamwork
  • Delegating and monitoring completion of duties according to departmental and Hospitals policies
  • Delivering safe direct care to patients, ensuring quality standards and documentation of patient care activities
  • Working within hospital and departmental policies, implementing individualized care plans
  • Ensuring patient medical records contain necessary information
  • Answering telephones, triaging calls, documenting and communicating clinical findings
  • Following patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
  • Identifying and reporting/correcting environmental conditions that may put a patient at risk
  • Encouraging patient participation in their care and reporting any concerns promptly

Requirements for this role:

  • Program Graduate
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Nationally Accredited Nursing Graduate
  • Nursing
  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
  • CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days
  • Experience with chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring PPE
  • Subject to an annual contract and performance appraisal

This position may involve initial and ongoing security clearance requirements due to the handling of hazardous materials and the potential physical risks associated with combative patient behavior. While there is some risk of verbal and physical assault from inmates, your role as a Nursing Supervisor is crucial in maintaining patient safety and delivering quality care.
