Minimum Qualifications


At least 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university, with courses completed in accounting, math, finance and/or business.

OR


Two years of permanent State Police service in an Office Assistant 1 (Calculations) or related position allocated to SG-6 or higher.


Duties Description
The Payroll Examiner 1 will assist with the preparation and review of bi-weekly and special payrolls.

Under rules and regulations issued by the Office of the State Comptroller, the Department of Civil Service, sections of the State Finance Law, and Contractual Agreements, the incumbent will assist in the determination of issues concerned with salaries, payments, deductions, and other factors which affect employee payrolls.


DUTIES
Ensure that payroll documents are received, accurate and processed.

And that all payrolls are prepared timely and accurately, and incompliance with Division and Office of the State Comptroller rules and regulations.

Assist in the computation and certification of overtime, special salary payments, deductions, and taxes.

Supervise the maintenance of a variety of payroll records and reports. Prepare certain payroll reports on a regular basis and others as requested.

Interpret and explain new salary provisions and payroll procedures to subordinate staff and other agency employees.

Resolve problems that are identified involving overtime, salary and/or deduction transactions. Follow up on all correction processing.


Communicate frequently with representatives of the Office of the State Comptroller for the purpose of identifying and clarifying procedural requirements and for resolving discrepancies in procedures and interpretations.

Supervise and oversee the Leave and Attendance Tracking System (LATS). Including testing, inquiries, reporting, and audits performed by the clerical staff assigned to the unit.

Work within the PAYSERV system, entering payments and payroll transactions.

Assist and direct employees who have questions regarding overtime, tax deductions and direct deposits.
