Job Overview
Collaborate closely with Intensivists to deliver specialized care to a particular patient group following established protocols. Responsibilities include performing essential critical care procedures like intubation, arterial lines/central line insertion, chest tube placement, and therapeutic bronchoscopy.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: Evaluate patients through comprehensive medical history and physical examination. Record all findings in the patient's medical record.
- Testing Orders: Request appropriate laboratory tests, x-rays, EKGs, and diagnostic procedures based on assessments.
- Prescriptions and Orders: Draft prescriptions/physician orders as per protocols and guidelines.
- Patient Care: Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to manage patient care. Offer consultation to peers and allied staff.
- Rounds/Documentation: Conduct rounds on hospitalized patients under physician supervision. Record patient history, exams, and care plans accurately.
- Invasive Procedures: Carry out specific invasive procedures within the scope of advanced practice nursing.
- Care Evaluation: Assess care quality and identify areas for enhancement in patient care and clinical processes.
- Research: Engage in research initiatives, papers, or publications.
Supervision/Management Responsibilities
This role does not involve managerial duties; it will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive.
Minimum Qualifications
Education - Master's Degree in Nursing; Nurse Practitioner Degree or equivalent certificate.
Experience - Minimum of 3 years of critical care nursing experience in settings like ICU, CCU. Some NP experience preferred, additional training provided by physicians.
Mandatory Certifications/Licenses
NURSE PRACTITIONER - NLNP
Official Recognition Nurse Practitioner in South Carolina
South Carolina Nursing License with Prescriptive Authority and Controlled Substance License; Federal DEA license.
