The UIC Department of Intercollegiate Athletics invites applications for the Assistant Coach, Sports Performance position to join our team of dedicated and highly skilled professionals.


The Assistant Coach, Sports Performance is responsible for assisting the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance with the training for strength development, injury prevention, education, nutrition and recovery guidance for student-athletes.

Job Responsibilities (Essential Duties)

  • Prepare and execute individual and group/team strength and conditioning programs for select sports.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine department to deliver and execute injury prevention and recovery training programs.
  • Conduct training sessions and workouts while teaching proper techniques for improved athletic performance.
  • Track, monitor and execute proper data analytics and key performance indicators (KPI) for results.
  • Meet with coaches and sports medicine staff to assess needs, develop programs and monitior individual progress.
  • Track and document injury history and assist in the rehabilitation of athletic injuries.
  • Serve as a role model and demonstrate a professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administration, alumni, and general public.
  • Provide instruction related to team and leadership concepts/sport specific skills to assigned player groups and individuals.
  • Provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety, and physical & mental well-being of the student-athletes.
  • Provide general safety instruction for all activities in which the team and/or individuals participate
  • Adhere to all University, Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Provide nutrition and recovery as assigned.
  • Travel with designated teams as assigned.
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Job Knowledge & Skills, Education, Experience
Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
Certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa).
Knowledge of anatomy and exercise physiology.
Knowledge of and commitment to compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
A commitment to the overall wellbeing of student-athletes.
A commitment to integrity, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Strong organizational skills and ability to balance multiple initiatives.
Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel software.
Experience in a Division I program preferred.

License or Certification:
AED and CPR Certification required upon hire
