The Youth and Family Mental Health Clinician will provide a full range of therapy services to adjudicated youth at a 20-bed Limited Secure Placement in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, and an LSP at th Street, South Ozone Park, NY Non-Secure and Limited Secure Placements are part of a groundbreaking initiative to provide services and support for juvenile justice system-involved youth in residential placement facilities closer to their families, communities, and schools.

The Youth and Family Mental Health Clinician will serve as a primary therapist and provide specific interventions including reviewing and integrating specific assessment information to write and monitor treatment plans, reviewing and revising treatment plans as necessary, and providing clinical support to other LSP staff including training.

  • Facilitates individual, family, and specialized group therapy (7 Challenges Substance Abuse groups, evidence-based CBT and DBT groups) and documents these processes.
  • Responsible for timely documentation in OCFS System of Record (Connections) and in the electronic health record (EHR) MyEvolv.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and protected information according to HIPAA standards
  • Complete paperwork in a timely manner, ensuring that the clinical records meet the requirements of standards set by various governing agencies (ACS, OCFS, and the courts). Prepares for audits accordingly.
  • Conducts an initial comprehensive MH assessment of each youth within required time-frames.
  • Coordinates services identified in the Initial Service Plan & subsequent reviews to assist clients in meeting their short & long-term goals by identifying available community resources and ensuring that such resources are accessible and provided to youth-supported.
  • Ensure intakes, psycho-socials, MH treatment plans, and reassessments are being completed in accordance with the intake and assessment protocol.
  • Provide crisis management and ongoing therapeutic support.
  • Assist with creating weekly therapeutic goals.
  • Conduct standardized intake assessments and other assessments as needed
  • Participate or send updates in conferences regarding youth/family behavior, diagnosis, and progress as a member of the treatment planning teams.
  • Interprets programmatic treatment needs for staff members and assists with providing and implementing integrated services.
  • Assists in developing and implementing the clinical program, which includes individual/group counseling and scheduled daily programmatic activities including family night and parent workshops.
  • Performs discharge and transition activities to ensure coordination of service delivery throughout the youth's commitment to the agency.
  • Evening and weekend hours may be required in response to program and youth needs.
  • On-call response to youth mental health needs may be required.
  • Attend and document treatment team meetings and consultations with internal and external providers.
  • Performs other program-related tasks.

Supervisory Relationships: The Youth and Family Mental Health Clinician reports to the JYF Clinical Director for clinical and career development guidance. A minimum of one hour per week of supervision is required. The Youth and Family MH Clinician also receives directives from the Site Director responsible for oversight of day-to-day facility operations.

Work Environment: The Youth and Family Mental Health Clinician will work from a workstation at the Carroll Street LSP located in Crown Heights Brooklyn, from a workstation and from a workstation at the South Ozone LSP located in South Ozone splitting days based on program needs. One remote workday per week or more is permitted upon the Clinical Director approval.

  • Master's degree in social work or mental health counseling required.
  • LCSW, LMSW, or LMHC preferred.
  • LMHC, LMST (or limited permit) with clinical experience will be considered.
  • Substance abuse counseling experience preferred.
  • Experience working with court-involved youth preferred.
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office skills.
  • Experience with Connections preferred.
  • Ability to intervene decisively, when necessary, to protect youth and family members.
  • Ability to set appropriate boundaries and limits for best practice.
  • Must be self-motivated; must be able to work independently and cooperatively.

Annual Salary 65k - 75k
