The pharmacy technician III is responsible for gathering information from medical records and other sources as required to process requests. Makes analysis of what further information needs to be collected to complete patient history. Makes recommendations to pharmacist for refill authorization based on protocols and data gathered. Communicates authorization requests to requesting parties. Assists with processing of prior authorization requests. Maintains database of activities to document workload and impact on patient outcomes.

California Licensed Pharmacy Technician Recent experience processing third party billing Experience in performing pharmacy calculations. Demonstrated knowledge of generic and trade drug names and pharmacy terminology. Experience in the use of pharmacy information systems and look-up patient data on hospital information systems. Excellent customer service skills and communication skills, both orally and in writing

Preferred Qualifications

Pharmacy Technician Certification (PTCB) Recent Outpatient Pharmacy Experience PBM Pharmacy Technician experience Prior Authorization/Patient Assistance Program Experience Knowledge of Hospital, Department and University Policies and Procedures Familiarity with Hospital, HBC, PCN layout, names and locations of patient care areas Experience in following an established protocol and keep accurate records and pay close attention to details.

Department Description

The Pharmacy Department provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services (prescriptions, unit dose, IV admixtures, clinical infusion pumps and teaching) throughout the Medical Center complex 24 hours per day. The Department is comprised of three inpatient and six outpatient pharmacies, a sterile production lab and the full complement of pharmacy purchasing, stores and distribution.

Work Environment

The position will include day shifts, night shifts and rotation weekend shifts. TB skin testing is required annually. Must have good personal hygiene and dress in a professional manner consistent with the Departmental and UCDMC policies. Abide by Departmental attendance standards. Special protective equipment must be used for required preparation of hazardous substances and spill cleanup. Must be able to rotate between multiple job tasks. Must be able to work occasional overtime, usually during computer failure, unanticipated staff shortage or unusually heavy usage periods. Must be able to walk/stand stoop and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to lift packages up to 50 pounds without assistance and push/pull carts up to 400 pounds.

Special Requirements

This position is a critical position and subject to a background check. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history and identity checks. As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs, as may be amended or revised from time to time.
