A shop hourly position with the primary responsibility to correctly and efficiently operate all assigned equipment.

This is a multi-functional role that will provide primary support to the Small Parts Department but assist in Balti-bond and PVC as needed.

As an experienced mechanic, the Mechanic II has a high level of proficiency in the small parts area and is competent to work independently in the majority of functions.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Owns personal and team safety. Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Fabricate pipe and tie rods for all of Assembly and Part Orders.
  • Familiar with and able to operate correctly and efficiently all assigned equipment in this department, including, but not limited to: HEM Saw, Steel cutting band saw, Abrasive cut saw, Drill press, Cold Saw, and Pipe threading machines.
  • Interpret parts and terms on the tickets and channel completed products to staging area for next operation.
  • Basic operation of the Haas machine, as needed.
  • Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
  • Help assist and train junior mechanics.
  • Knowledgeable of and meets quality standards on a consistent basis.
  • Committed to achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Maintains and sustain 5's in the department.
  • Fulfill the role of MI senior mechanic in his or her absence.
  • Continuously grow skills and expertise in order to flex to the maximum number of workstations within the small parts department.
  • Flex primarily to Baltibond and PVC, with other departments as needed.
  • Ensure individual activities embrace sustainability, reduce the impact on the environment, minimize waste, maximize recycling, minimize energy and water usage.
  • Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes, methods, systems or services; translates new ideas into business opportunities
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed and assigned.

NATURE & SCOPE
Reports to Supervisor, Station Leader or senior mechanic as assigned. Work is primarily related to home department, but may be flexed to other departments as order demand dictates. May be assigned the training and mentoring of junior mechanics.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Must demonstrate good organization and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC customer and coworkers. The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate
  • Competent in math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
  • Ability to use hand held measuring tools including tape measure, micrometer, and protractor.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and shop paperwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and react to department production schedules and job orders.
  • Good overall knowledge of the variety of BAC products and demonstrated understanding of the Baltibond process.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Understanding of elementary and intermediate LEAN principles including 5S, Kanban, one piece flow, and basic continuous improvement techniques
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and standard work instructions for their area
  • Demonstrated competence in BAC quality procedures and processes to follow when a quality issue is identified
  • Computer skills include competence in locating relevant instructions and forms on the LAN or other databases.

WORKING CONDITIONS


The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time.

Additional activities include:
walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes.

Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas.

Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
