Job Description:

Under the direction of the school principal and with the support of the special education teacher, the CDA is responsible for the education of assigned preschool-age students and will create a flexible program and class environment favorable for learning and personal growth. The CDA will establish effective rapport with students; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and the knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education, and do so in accordance with each student's ability. Professional relations will be developed and maintained with other staff and parents. Teaches subject matter, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Utah Board of Education, correlated with other appropriate learning activities: cognitive, physical, language and social emotional development for later academic and social success.

The job of Preschool CDA includes the essential duties of providing direct instruction to students aged 3-5, including students with a range of disabilities. Essential functions include, but are not limited to:

Plans and incorporates differentiated instruction in whole group, small group, and child-directed learning based on adopted curriculum and aligned with the Utah Core State Standards for Early Learning Create and maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate learning environment Administers ongoing assessment of students' educational growth and developmental progress to inform instruction, including progress monitoring assessments Collect data regularly regarding skills across developmental domains Effectively communicate information both verbally and in writing with parents and colleagues Maintain confidentiality of all educational and special education student records Collaborate in the development and implementation Individual Education Programs (IEPs) Implement positive behavior supports, behavior plans, and interventions as needed Maintains student files/records for the purpose of documenting activities and/or providing reliable information Monitors individual students, classroom, playground activities, etc. for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Supervise staff assistants and provide appropriate coaching and feedback Shop/purchase (using delineated district purchasing procedures) materials and supplies Supervise students loading/unloading buses Administer assistance to medically fragile children Administer medications to children under the direction of school nurse Demonstrates professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission. Conforms to district policies including attendance, absences and evaluations. Attendance must be adequate to acceptably perform listed job functions Possesses problem solving skills Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with students, school staff, district staff, and patrons Participates in ongoing, focused, and intensive professional development Works with other personnel as needed for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities Plans and incorporates family engagement, including ongoing communication between home and school, and parent education opportunities based on each family's circumstances Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. scheduling, copying, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the administrator in providing records/materials Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Basic Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds for the purpose of diapering, performing transfers, transitions, and position changes Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, bending, standing, and sitting in student-size chairs) for extended periods of time Must be able to move from sitting on floor to standing position repeatedly Must be able to utilize quick body movements to maintain safety and implement student behavior plans

Additional Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent Valid Utah Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential completed within 18 months of date of hire, or an associate or bachelor's degree in an Early Childhood Education related field Experience in a preschool or special education setting preferred Willing to participate in required district and school trainings
