Duties
  • Assisting and providing consultative services to and serving as a key resource to investigators on protocols with nutrition component.
  • Utilizing advanced nutrition software and nutrient databases to develop, calculate, and analyze specialized diets.
  • Developing and implementing research instruments, procedures, and methods to measure dietary intake including diet records, recalls, diet histories, and food frequency questionnaires.
  • Conducting body composition assessment.
  • Collecting, analyzing and interpreting study data and utilizing advanced statistical programs in the analysis of nutrition research data.
  • Conducting and documenting comprehensive nutritional screening, assessment, and diagnosis of patients.
Requirements Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires active, current registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Qualifications Basic Education Requirement:
In order to qualify for a Research Dietitian (Metabolic)-GS-630, position you must meet one of the following:

A. Basic Education Requirement: Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in the fields of dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science. The educational program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics) (ACEND), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For dietitian positions, the curriculum must have been in accordance with the qualifying requirements established by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) (formerly American Dietetic Association (ADA) prior to January 1, 2012) in effect at the time of graduation; or Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutrition; or Professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

B. Completion of a coordinated undergraduate program, internship, or other clinical component approved by AND (formerly ADA) for dietitians or nutritionists

OR

C. Have an active, current professional registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN).

Additional qualification Requirements:

You qualify at the GS-12 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements:

A. Successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in dietetics, food, nutrition, food service management, institution management, or related science;

OR

B. 1 year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of tasks: Creating specialized research diets for patients including complying with specific caloric and nutrient parameters; Conducting body composition measurements and assessments; Administering, collecting, and analyzing diet records, recalls, diet histories, and food frequency questionnaires; Maintaining and updating nutrient databases for a Metabolic Kitchen including nutrient, food composition, labeling, and packaging information; and Managing nutrition related research protocol requirements and associated data.

C. A combination of post-baccalaureate education and experience that is directly related to the duties of this position that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
