Job Description

Job Objective:

You will be responsible for the maintenance and cleanliness of the Divisional Headquarters building as well as the Emergency Disaster Services Training Center; performing room/equipment set up, and all types of routine maintenance and cleaning duties both inside and outside the buildings, including maintaining flower beds, sidewalks and parking lots

What You Will Do:
  • Perform routine janitorial services including regular trash pick-up, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning of restrooms, kitchens and other public areas as needed.
  • Perform routine maintenance services which do not require a specialized technician. Duties may include stripping/waxing floors, repairing drywall, painting, repairing doors and other building fixtures, build and install new furnishings, general carpentry projects, and window washing.
  • Assist with room set-up and equipment as directed. At EDS this may involve the use of warehouse equipment to relocate items, furniture, file cabinets and pallets.
  • Assist with the set-up and moving of supplies and equipment for various TSA events and locations as assigned.
  • Assist with repairs and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. This may include driving vehicles to vendors, minor repairs to lawn mowers, snow blowers, trimmers, and other equipment.
  • Ensure tools and supplies are clean and organized.
  • Maintain flowerbeds, sidewalks, and parking lots. This includes weeding, general gardening, and snow removal.
  • As directed maintain a working inventory of EDS supplies and recommend purchase of supplies as needed.
  • Ensure all trash has been taken to dumpsters on a daily basis or as requested.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned/needed.
Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent

Background Checks: This position will require a background check to be completed and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Prior janitorial/custodial experience preferred

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; able to pass motor vehicle record review; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment

Skills/Abilities:
  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele
  • Able to perform basic maintenance repairs
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems
Supervisory Responsibility: No supervisory responsibilities

Physical Requirements Include:
  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 50 pounds (example: salt and cleaning supplies) on a regular basis. Assist with moving heavier items on occasion.
  • Requires bending, squatting, walking, climbing stairs and kneeling
  • May require standing for extended periods
Travel: Pick-up or delivery of items in TSA vehicles. Travel to various TSA events and units as needed

Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in a typical office/maintenance environment with exposure to fumes, dust, steam, water and chemicals. Exposure to all weather conditions. May require some weekend and evening work
