The incumbent will be part of a team specializing in research and development related to characterizing the performance of nuclear reactor materials and fuels.

Within a reactor core, structural materials and fuels experience microstructural changes, which have the potential to affect the integrity and the in-core components.

The incumbent would apply microstructure characterization techniques to study material degradation, and assess the impact on long term operation.

DUTIES

  • Leads or contributes to investigations related to the characterization of nuclear reactor materials and fuels degradation
  • Develops the overall goals of the characterization exercise, and provides technical guidance to technologists, or scientists / engineers on appropriate characterization techniques.
  • Documents the results of the research, including presenting the results to commercial customers, regulators, and at international conferences
  • Participates in the safe operation of laboratories

QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD in a physical science or engineering, from a university of recognized standing, or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification in that organization.
  • 2 years of work experience in conducting research and development related to microstructural characterization of nuclear materials and fuels.
  • 2 years of experience in applying a Focused Ion Beam / Scanning Electron Microscope in materials characterization.
  • Proven communications skills, including presenting research work at international conferences and authoring research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Security clearance eligibility required:

Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.
