PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and provides guidance to staff on work assignments and responsibilities.
  • Investigates breaches of rules and regulations.
  • Conducts interviews with employees involved in rule violations.
  • Chooses appropriate action based on guidelines set by the Authority and Union.
  • Maintains records of interviews conducted.
  • Ensures staff delivers safe and top-notch customer service.
  • Visits accident and emergency sites to supervise rail service personnel.
  • Develops safety campaigns to prevent accidents among employees and passengers.
  • Suggests measures to reduce accidents and enhance customer service.
  • Provides information on alternative routes and assists with shuttle services.
  • Addresses customer queries and resolves complaints on-site.
  • Identifies areas for service improvement to boost ridership.
  • Works with employees to handle internal matters.
  • Resolves employee grievances and complaints after thorough investigation.
  • Prepares responses to grievances.
  • Coordinates with different departments to ensure staff comply with regulations.
  • Acts as the main CTA contact, interacting with various entities to coordinate services for events.
  • Recruits, trains, evaluates, and oversees staff.
  • Carries out other assigned duties.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Under this role, the following positions report:

  • Tower Worker, Switch Worker, Rapid Transit Operators, Flaggers, Information Specialists, Transitional Return to Work (TRTW) Employees.
  • Universal Rail Supervisors
  • Rail Clerks
  • Project Specialists

CHALLENGES

  • Setting and enforcing safety and service protocols to ensure reliable rail service.
  • Delivering safe and punctual service while managing resources effectively.
  • Remaining composed in diverse situations.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in fleet or transportation industry.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of transit operations and working in a union environment.
  • Valid State of Illinois Driver's license.
  • Completion of a rail operations program within six months of employment.
  • Maintaining current Rail Safety or Train Operating Certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions and for extended hours.
  • Requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer usage.
  • Must reside within CTA's Service Area.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Extensive knowledge of transportation systems and safety principles.
  • Knowledge of transit operations and safety procedures.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and customer service abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Capacity to direct people during emergencies.
  • Ability to analyze and report on rail operations.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
  • On-call 24/7 for emergency situations.
  • Work in rail yards, terminals, and offices.
  • Exposed to moving vehicles and railway hazards.
  • Varied work hours and limited time off during peak periods.

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED

  • Usage of standard office equipment.
  • Required to carry a company-issued cellphone and respond promptly.
  • Must carry and respond to radio calls while on duty.
