This segment encompasses two primary product categories - carrier network and enterprise network.

Job Summary:

As a Development Engineer Co-Op at Corning, you will utilize engineering principles to support technological advancements in the telecommunications arena. Your role will involve designing, constructing, and assessing prototype products, with a primary focus on fiber optic connectors and protective enclosures for connection points. You will leverage various technologies including plastic injection molding, sheet metal fabrication, rapid prototyping, and optical design. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will tackle challenges efficiently to fulfill project requirements and lead small-scale initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 2D & 3D CAD Design of novel components and assemblies
  • Prototyping & evaluation of new components and assemblies
  • Coordination, planning, and execution of experiments to support assigned projects
  • Active engagement within project teams and collaboration across boundaries when necessary
  • Leading projects of limited scope
  • Effective management of priorities and timelines to accomplish set objectives
  • Preparation of concise oral and written reports detailing test results and key findings for technical audiences

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Currently pursuing a BS or MS in an engineering discipline (Mechanical or Industrial)
  • Completion of coursework covering first and second-year engineering studies
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher

Required Skills:

  • Proficiency in CAD Design Software
  • Innovative problem-solving abilities
  • Hands-on experience in building prototype products and testing systems
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Results-driven mindset
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with Creo or Unigraphics NX CAD software
  • Hands-on laboratory experience using lathe, mill, and various hand tools
  • Familiarity with PLM Software like Windchill or eNovia
  • Relevant work or classroom experience

Work Hours:

  • Full-time position - 40 hours/week, 8 am-5 pm, with flexibility required
