Duties:

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-7.

If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties and will receive training to help you grow in this position.


As an Archives Technician, you will:

  • Determine and/or carry out the appropriate preservation and holdings maintenance actions for all record formats.
  • Anticipate, identify, and resolve customer service problems pertaining to reference and associated records handling and security issues. Gather and report customer service data.
  • Maintain uptodate knowledge regarding the large and complex variety of records series within the Library in order to locate requested material and refile material. Train lower grade employees or volunteers, as requested.
  • Perform detailed and complex arrangement work following a plan (or general guidance) approved by supervisor or team leader. Improve the arrangement of records in accordance with higherlevel established criteria and/or assess records to provide input on how a series of records should be arranged.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

  • A oneyear probationary period may be required.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation.
  • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
  • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
  • Go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form i9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S.
  • Physical demands may include climbing casterequipped ladders, maneuvering on catwalks, moving heavy carts of records, and handling boxes of records stored up to 15 feet above the floor and typically weighing 50 pounds, occasionally more. The work may also demand considerable standing, walking, stooping, bending and lifting.

Qualifications:

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Using judgement and analysis to determine the proper course of action and steps needed to accomplish an assignment;
AND
Experience performing archival functions, such as monitoring, pulling and refiling records, reference, arrangement and description, and holdings maintenance;
AND
Communicating and assisting various audiences.

Communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing;
AND
Using systems to locate items and/or using documentation to identify information relevant to a work assignment;
AND

Education:

This job does not have an education qualification requirement.
