The role of a Licensed Vocational Nurse involves delivering appropriate nursing care under the guidance of an RN on the unit.

Responsibilities include data collection and reporting, executing orders, and carrying out therapeutic procedures on patients in a manner suitable for their age and demographic. This is in line with the protocols and guidelines of Post Acute Medical.

Additionally, other duties may be assigned as needed.

RESPONSIBILITIESPatient Care
  • Under the direct supervision of an RN, taking care of assigned patients during designated shifts.
  • Administering oral and IV medications as directed.
  • Ensuring accurate charting and timely documentation in the medical records.
  • Updating care plans as necessary.
  • Recording vital signs and providing necessary care such as ostomy care.
  • Monitoring patients for any changes in their medical condition.
  • Reporting to physicians when needed.
  • Changing wound dressings and collecting specimens.
  • Inserting and maintaining tubes and catheters.
  • Providing care for patients with tracheostomies or ventilators.
Reporting and Documentation
  • Participating in care planning including discharge planning and patient teaching post-discharge.
  • Observing patient progress and communicating changes to RNs and physicians.
  • Accurately reporting any adverse patient responses.
  • Ensuring effective communication and documentation.
  • Recording vital signs and other observations appropriately.
  • Assisting in obtaining necessary physician orders.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Training: Requires current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse / Licensed Vocational Nurse in the respective state. Should hold current BLS certification.Experience: Preference for one year of inpatient medical-surgical nursing experience.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand and use medical terminology.
  • Strong organizational and cognitive abilities.
  • Capacity to motivate and support non-licensed staff.
  • Flexible and adaptable approach to work.
A few preferences we have:
  • Prior experience in emergency or critical care settings.
  • Comfort working with vents, trachs, and similar.
  • At least 2 years of direct patient care experience.
