Food Service positions do the important behind-the-scenes work to keep camp running smoothly. Kitchen Assistants will work under the guidance of the Food Service Supervisor to ensure that the kitchen is clean and operational and will assist in serving three meals per day/seven days per week.
Full summer season - Begins in mid-June, about a week before camp is in session, and ends when camp sessions stop usually in mid-August (around an 8-9 week program)
Key Responsibilities:
- Review the daily menu ahead of time and assist the cooks with the preparation of food as menu indicates and serve meals according to the kitchen/camp expectations.
- Ensure that the camp's food service operations are carried out in a manner which meets federal, state, and local health standards.
- Sort, store, and distribute ingredients as required.
- Assist in food storage and leftovers at the proper temperatures.
- Wash all dishes, serving dishes, utensils, and kitchen linens according to regulated washing methods and temperatures. Ensure appropriate storage of equipment at the end of each meal.
- Maintain current knowledge of any camper and staff allergies and dietary restrictions.
- Clean and sanitize all food preparation areas, preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen/dining hall areas as required, including disposal of refuse.
- Minimum age of 16 years old.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
- Minimum one year of kitchen experience preferred.
- SERV Safe certified or willingness to obtain before camp starts.
- Knowledge of the Girl Scout programs preferred.
- Attend and complete pre-camp trainings.
- Experience working with children preferred.
- Ability to quickly respond to emergencies 24/7 when on camp property and follow GSHPA established emergency procedures.
- Ability to live and work in the outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
- Willingness to live on camp for the entirety of their assigned camp season
- Must pass and maintain required background checks
$550 per week (includes room and board)
