SUMMARY: The Fraud Specialist will be responsible for assisting and completing complex fraud investigations and/or reviewing complex and basic fraud reports in order to take appropriate action to mitigate the loss to ECCU.

JOB SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in investigating external fraud, crimes, and criminal acts against the credit union or its members. This includes all aspects of a fraud investigation, including interviews, criminal report filing, loss recovery, and recommendations for charge-off, legal action, or completion of bond claims.
  • Responsible for investigating fraudulent account transactions, including but not limited to deposits and withdrawals made remotely, in branches or at ATMs, withdrawal activity associated with stolen, forged, altered, and counterfeit items, and unauthorized access to accounts through various channels, including online and mobile.
  • Responsible for the investigation of suspicious wire and ACH activity and investigating consumer loan disputes.
  • Investigate and process Domestic Collections, check fraud claims, identity theft claims, unauthorized transaction claims, and Indemnifications.
  • Coordinate with business units, BSA and Compliance to ensure all activities in the investigation are completed and reported within the regulated time frames, and suspicious activity reporting is complete.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information and controls and protects sensitive information and materials.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the department's controls and be responsible for recommending additional controls pertaining to fraud prevention and detection.
  • Advanced level of experience dealing effectively with internal/external members with suspicious account activity. Also responsible for conducting internal and external interviews with members and law enforcement agencies resulting from suspicious or fraudulent activity.
  • Understands the legal and regulatory requirements relative to the financial services industry and credit unions.
  • Document, track, and maintain case due diligence and filings, place proper account restrictions, and review account services restoration requests. Ensures time-sensitive reports and notices are completed to satisfy compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide support and guidance with fraud-related questions.
  • Organize, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks in a high-production, fast-paced setting, navigating various computer systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience: Three to five years of related work. Work-related experience should include Central Operations, Deposit Operations, and/or Branch Operations background.

Language Ability: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Must be able to assess any given situation and bring to a successful resolution.

Computer Skills: MS Word and Excel proficient, Outlook and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Symitar preferred.
