Discipline: Special Education (SPED)
Hours: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Number of Positions: 5
Onsite or Virtual: Onsite only
Special Requirements: Active Alabama SPED License required

Caseload/Details:

Self-Contained Units:

  • Middle School: Responsible for a self-contained classroom with a variety of exceptionalities.
  • Elementary School: Supervise a self-contained unit catering to diverse exceptionalities.
  • Middle School: Oversee a self-contained unit with a mix of exceptionalities, including students with behavioral challenges.

Resource Rooms:

  • Middle School: Focus on providing support mainly to 7th-grade students.
  • High School: Mainly assist 12th-grade students in a resource room environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Customized Instruction: Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to address the unique needs of each student, ensuring academic and behavioral achievements.
  • Classroom Dynamics: Establish and maintain a supportive and well-structured classroom atmosphere, effectively managing student behaviors and fostering a conducive learning environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with general education teachers, families, and support staff to create a harmonious educational journey for students.
  • Ongoing Assessment: Regularly assess student progress and adjust teaching strategies to optimize learning outcomes.
  • Detailed Record Keeping: Maintain meticulous records of student advancement, behavioral interventions, and any special support offered.
  • Support Services: Offer additional resources and guidance to students and families, ensuring comprehensive fulfillment of all educational requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Licensure: Must possess an active Alabama Special Education License.
  • Experience: Previous experience in self-contained or resource room environments is highly advantageous.
  • Skills: Exceptional communication and organizational skills, with the capacity to customize educational approaches to individual student necessities.
