OVERVIEW

The final step in the process of manufacturing asphalt plant equipment is sandblasting and painting. Sandblasting uses blasting equipment that abrades the surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, so the surface can be painted and refinished. Painters use specific equipment that primes and coats the surfaces of both large pieces of equipment and smaller individual parts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares surfaces by masking, grit blasting, or chemical rinsing.
  • Abrades surfaces of metal or hard-composition objects to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt so the surface can be painted and refinished using abrasive-blasting equipment.
  • Prime parts
  • Paint and apply finishing coats to in accordance to blueprints and/or customer specifications.
  • Hanging parts from the racking, blasting, washing, and drying parts.
  • Examines finished products to ensure conformance to specifications
  • Observes safety rules and procedures: including the use of a proper respirator/painting/sandblasting equipment
  • Drive lift trucks
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
