Job Summary
The RN is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
Renders professional care in accordance with the physician treatment plan and the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation.
He/She is a clinical practitioner who coordinates and implements patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units which can range from neonate to geriatric.
He/She ensures that compassionate, engaged care meets or exceeds quality standards.Care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the South Carolina licensure and AAMC standard of care.
Utilizes nursing skills to determine the biophysical, psycho-social, environmental, self care, cultural, ethnic and spiritual and educational needs of the patient/family/significant other to develop, implement and revise the plan of care.
In doing so, performs frequent and accurate assessments, interprets and correlates finding, establishes plan of care and implements short term goals.
The nurse observes patient progress, records pertinent observations, implements physician and nursing treatment plans and evaluates outcomes.Job Requirements
Minimum Education Requirement
Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Minimum Experience Requirement
Priority given to ED or critical care nursing experience. Prior RN nursing experience required.
New RN graduates with prior experience as an LPN, EMT or who have non-RN, but closely related experience may be considered for this position.
Possesses organizational skills necessary in fast paced, high stress critical care setting.Demonstrates ability to properly assess patient chief complaint in order to prioritize patient needs according to severity of illness/injury and needs.
Possesses a thorough knowledge of nursing principles as well as hospital and ED policies and procedures; demonstrates ability to provide quality patient care in a high stress environment; communicates and works effectively with people; Basic computer skills.
Minimum License RequirementCurrent SC Nursing License or Multi-state license or temporary SC license, BLS, ACLS and PALS are required. Certification in TNCC is preferred. (Upon initial hire, employee has six months to obtain ACLS and PALS).
Must complete NIMS Training, IS100, IS200 and IS700a within the first 90 days of hire or transfer to the ER or provide completion certificate.
Physical Requirement/Working ConditionsMay have irregular hours and long periods of standing.
Should be able to lift up to 50 pounds, and will seek assistance when heavier objects need to be lifted.
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a hospital environment.
May be exposed to infectious specimens, diseases, soiled laundry, lifting and handling of heavy patients, but potential for personal harm or injury to self or others is limited when proper safety and health precautions are followed.
Able to pass employee physical prior to orientation; able to maintain emotional stability; must be in good physical condition to meet the demands of an active position, including extensive walking, moderate sitting, standing and lifting; physically able to perform CPR.
