Custodian/Driver Job Description

Position Summary:
As a Custodian/Driver at The Salvation Army, you will be responsible for driving a Salvation Army vehicle to transport passengers to and from Salvation Army activities, pick up food donations, and complete light maintenance tasks to maintain the cleanliness of the campus building and grounds.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide transportation for members to and from the Corps each Sunday.
  • Transport children to and from afternoon activities.
  • Drive Home League members to and from the Fellowship Hall.
  • Transport children during day camp and day camp trips.
  • Drive groups to summer camp.
  • Pick up and deliver miscellaneous items as needed.
  • Deliver/pick up mail to/from the post office.
  • Ensure passenger safety by driving carefully and complying with traffic signs and conditions.
  • Perform custodial duties such as trash collection, grounds maintenance, and food donation pickup.
  • Transport materials and supplies between the warehouse and office/store campus.
  • Assist in setting up meeting rooms and monitoring light fixtures.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks like changing light bulbs and clearing clogged drains.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Two years of experience operating an automotive vehicle and six months of custodial/janitorial experience.
  • Valid State Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of driving techniques, safety precautions, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to read maps, follow instructions, and work independently.
  • Physical ability to lift objects, perform maintenance work, and drive in various conditions.

Working Conditions:
Work as a Custodian/Driver involves driving in different weather conditions and long trips, performing maintenance tasks, and exposure to outdoor elements.
