Job Description

As a member of the Administrative Team, the Social Worker plays a vital role in understanding the operational systems and funders of the agency. Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Assisting the Program Director in transitions for children entering and exiting the Approved Private School Program.
  • Supporting parents in understanding and meeting the special needs of their children.
  • Organizing parent support groups, interest groups, and social events for families.
  • Empowering families to advocate for their children.
  • Collaborating with parents and others to address issues affecting a child's school adjustment.
  • Conducting home visits as needed.
  • Developing orientation programs for families and nurses in the APS Program.
  • Coordinating resources to enhance a child's learning experience.
  • Providing information and referrals upon request.
  • Implementing Easterseals' child abuse policy and acting as the main point of contact for reporting child abuse.
  • Participating in APS classroom meetings and supporting staff in identifying social service needs.
  • Engaging in the IEP process and collaborating with team members on Early Intervention services.
  • Delivering Social Work services to children and families as outlined in IEPs.
  • Contributing to the development of new family initiatives and programs.
  • Offering consultation to other programs on family-related issues.
  • Assisting in budget planning for social work services.
  • Ensuring timely completion of paperwork and supervising Social Work interns as required.
  • Fulfilling any other duties assigned by the Program or Division Director.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution recognized by the Council of Social Work Education (preferred but not required).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work (BSW) considered with relevant experience.
  • Professional certification and licensure as a Social Worker in Pennsylvania, or eligibility for licensure within one year of hire.
  • Prior experience in Social Work, preferably in a pediatric, medical, or educational setting.
  • Willingness to explore the emotional aspects of working with children with special needs.
  • Access to reliable personal transportation.
