Overview

The role of Senior Network Security Engineer is vital in providing advanced network routing and switching services to the University community, ensuring the availability, integrity, security, and reliability of critical networking and switching services.


As a member of the Network Routing and Switching group, the senior engineer plays a key role in managing and monitoring network infrastructure, analyzing and resolving network issues, and continually enhancing network and switching infrastructure to support the university's research, teaching, and administrative activities.



Responsibilities

Network security architecture and design support
  • Designing, implementing, and managing secure networks for the university campus.
  • Assessing existing network security, identifying risk areas, and implementing proactive measures.
  • Leading the creation of secure network architectures, access control policies, encryption protocols, and firewall management.
  • Staying updated on industry security best practices, trends, and technologies.
  • Reviewing network routing and security system logs regularly and addressing identified issues.
  • Adhering to data confidentiality policies as per university guidelines.

Network routing and switching operations support

  • Monitoring and ensuring scalability, performance, high availability, and data integrity for networking and security.
  • Configuring and maintaining monitoring, alerting, and reporting for network routing and switching services.
  • Documenting and managing configuration information for networking and monitoring systems.
  • Providing operational support for advanced network services to OIT and the University community.
  • Applying critical updates, security patches, and configuration changes following change management procedures.
  • Collaborating with university departments and teams on operational issues and projects.
  • Testing and verifying backup and restore procedures for network systems.
  • Providing on-call support for network upgrades and incident resolution outside business hours.

Project design and implementation support

  • Deploying and managing reliable network solutions for university departments.
  • Administering and supporting networking systems including switches and routers.
  • Participating in the analysis, design, installation, and management of network infrastructure.
  • Engaging in professional development to enhance skills continuously.
  • Following OIT IT service management processes diligently.
  • Maintaining data confidentiality and assisting colleagues in Network Services.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in managing medium to large network infrastructures with a focus on security.
  • Demonstrated innovation and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in network routing, switching, and security management.
  • Ability to solve complex network problems effectively.
  • Deep knowledge of network protocols and security policies.
  • Experience with Cisco, Aruba, and Palo Alto networks.
  • Proficient in adapting to various operating systems and platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in service management processes.
  • Capability to handle multiple projects and work under pressure.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with network management tools and technologies.
  • Experience with advanced network routing technologies.
  • Proficiency in network automation tools for service enhancement.
