Role Overview

The Buyer II position is accountable for acquiring specific commodities to fulfill production requirements and internal standards. This role involves negotiating with suppliers, managing supplier relationships, handling purchasing transactions, and addressing any quality issues related to supplier products.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing department to enhance quality, cost, and delivery procedures.
  • Utilize and maintain standard work documentation and Lean procedures for compliance.
  • Source quotes from qualified suppliers for assigned materials to secure favorable prices and maintain quality requirements.
  • Purchase products to support Materials Planning, Manufactured Products, and Non-Inventory needs.
  • Collaborate with requisitioners and departments to ensure clarity on products before placing orders.
  • Create and verify purchase orders with specified requirements and pricing.
  • Distribute purchase orders to suppliers and monitor item deliveries, expediting orders when necessary.
  • Confirm receipt of items and resolve any shipping errors with suppliers.
  • Authorize purchase payments and address invoice discrepancies with Accounts Payable.
  • Develop procedures to address recurring errors and prevent future issues.
  • Assess suppliers' capabilities to meet STERIS quality requirements.
  • Stay updated on market trends within the assigned area and report relevant changes to management.
Continued Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain Manager to establish short and long-term purchase plans for materials and services.
  • Coordinate with various departments to ensure timely procurement of required parts, suppliers, and services to meet schedule demands.
  • Negotiate with vendors on pricing, delivery, service, and quality within purchasing guidelines.
  • Act as an authorized agent for procurement-related agreements and contracts.
  • Engage in supplier audits and facilitate supplier improvement initiatives.
  • Analyze suppliers' financial stability and assess their compatibility with STERIS requirements.
  • Support new product initiatives by coordinating supplier selection and participating in product development teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory standards.
Required Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
  • 3-6 years of progressive procurement experience.
  • Familiarity with regulated industries and commodities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
  • Hands-on experience in an MRP system environment.
Preferred Experience
  • Professional certifications (SPM, CPIM, CSCP).
  • Experience in a lean manufacturing setting.

Work Schedule
  • Hybrid schedule role based in Montgomery, AL.
  • 3 days/week onsite and 2 days/week remote.
