We are looking for a Sr. Welding Engineer to join our team The Sr.

Welding Engineer will be responsible for applying their engineering skill set to analyze process efficiency, troubleshoot defects, perform quality assurance functions, and identify cost saving opportunity for material joining processes (e.g., welding, brazing).

Working with plant/site personnel, collect and review data, understand trends, and identify improvement opportunities (e.g., scrap/rework reduction, process optimization, cost reduction).

Ensure the vital projects are aligned across corporate, business unit and plant/site priorities.


Acts as the primary point of contact for corporate technical support with the plants/sites to ensure successful welding related process improvements and capital equipment investments.

Champions principles for Worthington Welding Excellence (WWE) playbook and drives continuous improvement in applicable value streams.

Assist in defining the welding requirements during new product development (NPD) and production processes.

Key Position Results

Continuous improvement of welding processes and equipment (i.e., fixturing, troubleshooting, automation, transformation, etc.).

Scrap and rework improvements.

Process efficiency improvements.

Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with plant/site personnel.

Perform process audits and reporting.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Investigate, problem solve, and report on welding related issues for assigned plants/sites.

Provide welding related subject matter expertise to corporate, engineering, quality, and plant/site functions.

Monitor and support welding related projects at each assigned plant/site.

Provide training on material joining processes and practices.

Other duties as assigned.

Critical Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities


Knowledge and practical understanding of manual, semi-automatic, automatic, and robotic material joining techniques that may include gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), resistance spot welding (RSW), projection welding (PW), submerged arc welding (SAW), and brazing.


Knowledge of regulatory and industry standards, including Department of Transportation (DOT), Transport Canada (TC), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Compressed Gas Association (CGA), American Welding Society (AWS), and ISO-9001.

Understanding of pressurized cylinder designs, manufacturing, and testing processes.

Strong teamwork and communication (verbal and written) skills with emphasis on customer focus.

Technical understanding of metallurgy, quality management systems, and auditing practices.


Applies technical engineering skill set to analyze process efficiency, troubleshoot defects, problem solve, perform quality control functions, and drive cost savings.

Ability to define and organize project plans, drive activity, monitor status, and communicate adjustments necessary.

Travel up to 30% annually.

Education / Training Required

BS, Welding Engineering or equivalent from an accredited program.

Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing environment with applied welding processes.
