The Role

We are seeking a Motorsports Computational Fluid Dynamics Analyst to join a multi-disciplined team of engineers who are responsible for developing, correlating, and analyzing full car and subsystem simulations of varying complexity. You will work with GM Motorsports colleagues and GM Key Partner teams to ensure the teams can develop the highest performing vehicles possible. Working within the motorsports aerodynamics team, you will provide support, methods, and analysis for wind tunnel and track development and correlation.

What You'll Do:

  • Support full car and subsystem models capable of detailed aerodynamic simulation
  • Carry out CFD simulations from the part design through the reporting and presentation of results and analysis
  • Plan and conduct correlational analysis of CFD and wind tunnel test results
  • Develop methods and code to be implemented in and enhance an automated CFD pipeline
  • Remain apprised of the latest developments in the field of CFD to keep the models at the leading edge of technology
  • Organize CFD test results into concise, presentable reports for proper decision making and implementation
  • Interface and collaborate with GM Race Teams, GM Virtual Design and Development Group, GM IT and GM Software groups in the development of tools to be used over a wide range of programs
Additional Description

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
  • Bachelors or Master's degree in Engineering or a related subject with coursework in Aerodynamics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Thermodynamics
  • 3 years minimum motorsports racing industry experience as a CFD Engineer Analyst / Aerodynamicist
  • Proficiency in CAD software and design methodology (Siemens NX)
  • Experience with CFD software (Star CCM+ preferred) and visualization related software and methods
  • Proficiency with scripting languages (Python and Java preferred)
  • Knowledge of experimental aerodynamics best practices
  • Strong written, verbal and organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment, with strong work ethic and integrity
  • Self-motivation along with the ability to effectively work with others and support team goals

What Will Give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
  • Knowledge of data collection and correlational methods for use during wind tunnel or track tests
  • Experience with code development and management tools such as GitHub
  • Proficiency in Linux, Windows and Microsoft Azure environments
  • Knowledge of both transient and steady state CFD solvers
  • Understanding of various aerodynamic turbulence models as they relate to specific CFD test methods and results
  • Experience with the architecture and performance of various automotive race vehicles
