JOB SUMMARY

The UConn School of Nursing is among the top Nursing Schools nationwide. It has 72 faculty members, 599 undergraduate, and 186 graduate students, and actively engages in research.

Our team seeks an Editor 1 (Job level 2) who will tell the stories of the School's many successes and the exceptional people behind them. Working under the direction of the School of Nursing Director of Marketing, the Editor 1 will write and edit a variety of materials, including news and feature articles, announcements, press releases, social media posts, marketing copy, and other areas as necessary. They will develop editorial materials and execute creative strategies to strengthen the School's reputation and community. They will oversee internal and external publications and build positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and students.

This position calls for an individual with exceptional writing and editing abilities, a passion for storytelling, and an ability to understand and work with people from a variety of academic fields and backgrounds. The incumbent will build on the already stellar reputation of the UConn School of Nursing and help advance our mission.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The successful applicant will:

Develop, write, and edit news articles, feature stories, announcements, social media posts, marketing copy, and other content to promote the School of Nursing. Proofread and edit written copy, checking for facts, analysis, grammar, and readability; clear written copy with appropriate individuals. Develop and maintain positive relationships with unit heads, faculty, and staff; leverage these relationships to identify news stories and interview expert sources. Produce and work with collaborators to source imagery, video, design, and other materials for editorial and marketing materials. With the Director of Marketing, develop and set editorial content strategy to elevate the reputation and community of the School. Serve as editor and producer for School publications, including biweekly and monthly faculty and staff newsletters, and annual UNISON publications. Work with the Director of Marketing to ensure the broad diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and academic areas in the School of Nursing are represented in editorial and marketing materials. Meticulously manage editorial and marketing content calendars; assess and adjust approaches as necessary. Assist in overseeing a portfolio of student marketing and communications initiatives, including leadership-level talks, student events, and social media takeovers. Assist with marketing projects and materials such as brochures, speeches, presentations, web copy, reports, signage, etc. Work regularly with other UConn offices, including communications, information technology, alumni relations and development, and other areas to further shared School goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or a related field. One to two years of experience in writing and digital marketing or similar, related experience. Demonstrated exceptional journalistic writing skills. Proven ability to translate complex topics into accessible language. Ability to manage multiple deadline-driven tasks. Ability to create and carry out communications plans. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in storytelling approaches.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

An advanced degree in a related field. Experience working in higher education. Experience managing publication production schedules. Experience managing social media production and strategy. Experience with WordPress and Adobe Photoshop. Ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.
