Purpose
The GIS Tech is responsible for final processing and quality control of mapping products including project set-up with process descriptions, translators, directory organization, and data archiving to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations.
Data Management and Processing:
Convert data from initial collection format through various editing stages to final delivery format, ensuring consistency and readiness for client use.
Review all project-related data files; collect, organize, and prepare historical project data for archiving, preserving work integrity and facilitating future references.
Quality Control:
Conduct comprehensive geometry (topology) quality control checks utilizing a range of GIS software to validate data accuracy and integrity.
Perform detailed attribution quality control checks to ensure data attributes are precise and meet project specifications, utilizing various GIS software tools.
Project and Workflow Coordination:
Prioritize job requests effectively based on project deadlines to optimize workflow and ensure timely progress.
Notify department Lead or Director of any project-related issues to align quality objectives with expected timelines and ensure issues are addressed promptly.
Product Development and Delivery:
Create high-quality final products for client delivery, ensuring that all work aligns with quality standards for first-time client acceptance.
Guarantee on-time final delivery of products, emphasizing the importance of adhering to project timelines and client expectations.
Standards and Documentation Compliance:
Adhere to and maintain International Organization for Standardization (ISO) documentation to uphold global standards within all project activities.
Develop comprehensive metadata for all datasets to facilitate user understanding and future applicability of geographic data.
Quality Assurance:
Ensure all completed work meets or exceeds defined quality standards, with a focus on achieving first-time acceptance by clients.
Engage in continuous improvement by providing feedback on quality control processes and contributing to the refinement of departmental standards.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor's degree in Geography or related GIS field (will accept combination of related coursework and relevant work experience).
Working knowledge of ESRI products.
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
General knowledge of GIS processing and editing.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn new products.
Adaptability to changing schedules and priorities based on client needs.
Preferred:
1+ years' relevant experience
Working knowledge of CAD software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD.
Familiarity with LIDAR processing.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
Visual acuity - normal color vision.
Able to sit and focus on imagery on a computer monitor for long periods of time.
Able to occasionally lift 50 pounds from floor to waist height.
Manual dexterity as needed to use accepted tools of management, i.e., computers, computer monitors, mouse, keyboard.
Low light working conditions
Work conducted in an office setting
