POSITION SUMMARYProvide education, modeling and support to veterans in an effort to develop the social skills and life skills needed for effective self-governance

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS STATEMENT(S)

Implementation of Therapeutic & Preventive Skills

  1. Facilitate effective teaching of participants through the observation, recognition & clear description of skills and behaviors.
  2. Set limits utilizing positive and negative consequences to strengthen/promote positive behaviors and discourage problem behaviors.
  3. Support positive behavior of participants by utilizing effective praise.
  4. Assist the participants in recognizing the benefits of the skills they are learning through the use of rationales and role-playing.
  5. Provide preventive and corrective teaching opportunities to participants.
  6. Teach participants how to use self-control in an effort to manage oneself.
  7. Assist participants to resolve conflicts, plan ahead, and make decisions.
Participant Services
  1. Provide supervision to ensure safety and well-being of all residents.
  2. Guide group dynamics, providing support and guidance as appropriate with the Therapeutic and Preventive Skills Model.
  3. Provide individual contact with residents to praise, nurture, and consequence as necessary.
  4. Participate in activities, while assisting them in achieving privileges and approving of privileges and requests, as appropriate.
  5. Assist participant during meal preparation ensuring proper nutritional needs are met.
  6. Provide effective role modeling for residents to encourage healthy lifestyles.
  7. Provide support and guidance to participants in achieving their goals.
Support Service
  1. Maintain consistent communication regarding the process of each resident with other residential staff.
  2. Document services, activities and necessary program information.
  3. Participate in meetings regarding participants as requested.
  4. Attend program staff meetings.
  5. Attend all trainings required by agency and program standards.
  6. Perform job responsibilities professionally, consistent with the agency's Code of Ethics.
  7. Display an understanding of agency theory base of Social Learning Theory.
Facility
  1. Provide guidance and support to participants in maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in the facility.
  2. Maintain safe working conditions.
  3. Report any maintenance needs to Veterans Coordinator.
  4. Comply with Department of Health Standards and Fire Safety Codes.
Other
  1. Responsible for other duties as assigned
POSITIONS QUALIFICATIONS
SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor degree in counseling, social work, or related human service field

Experience: Minimum of one-year related work experience or an equivalent combination

Skills:Effective communication and management skills are necessary; individual must possess a genuinedesire to teach and guide veterans and be a positive role mode

Certifications &Valid driver's license required if providing transportation servicesLicenses:

Other Requirements:All candidates must be at least 21 years of age; preference will be given to qualified veterans

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  1. Ability to Stand, Walk, sit, manually manipulate, reach outward and above shoulders, speak, climb, crawl, squat, kneel, and bend on a daily basis
  2. Capability to Lift, carry, push or pull up to 100 lbs on a daily basis
