Certified Peer Specialists provide a unique perspective and generous contribution to community-based support services. Strong candidates for the CPS position may be offered free training to prepare for certification. Successful completion of training course and subsequent certification is necessary to qualify for employment.
As an essential member of an Assertive Community Treatment team, a Certified Peer Specialist is responsible for collaborating with service recipients, team members, family members, significant others and collateral resources to promote socialization experiences, create rehabilitative skills training opportunities, maximize empowerment experiences, structure and support social and recreational activities, and promote recovery through the Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP). This is a full time, hourly position ($17.38) with a sign-on bonus of $3000 Advantages of Working with RHD:

Job Details:
  • The Certified Peer Specialist assists individuals served to maintain stability in the community and promote opportunities for recovery-focused interactions and activities.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist, as well, assists team members and other providers with an understanding of the Recovery Model and the day-to-day practice of this modality.
  • The CPS (Certified Peer Specialist) engages those served in a trusting and supportive relationship, providing emotional support within professional boundaries as needed, supports the individualized recovery plan developed with the individual, with the aim of achieving and maintaining physical and mental health, and emotional well-being.
  • Incorporating self help techniques into daily living experiences and problem-solving activities.
  • Role modeling adaptive styles of behaviors.
  • Practice and encourage advocacy activities to enable self-advocacy efforts.
  • Participation in the individual's development of an informal support network.
  • Mentor appropriate use of community resources.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist must have knowledge of community resources, experience in consumer advocacy, and the capability of participation in the team format. Strong candidates for available positions may be offered free training to prepare for certification. Successful completion and certification is necessary to qualify for employment.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist must be understanding of, and interested in, working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. The services are provided in the community and home environment, and the worker will need to be respectful of personal boundaries.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist must also have a valid driver's license.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist worker must be assertive and able to communicate well with both consumers being served and the various persons and organizations the worker will be in contact with in the community.
  • The Certified Peer Specialist must be organized, goal oriented and able to follow through with numerous responsibilities, including responding appropriately and effectively in a crisis situation.
This is a full time, hourly position ($17.38) with a sign-on bonus of $3000 at 90 days ($1500 at 90 days, $1500 at 6 months)

Recovery-focused, multidisciplinary, assertive community treatment programs provide intensive, individual support for people in Lehigh and Northampton counties who are working to overcome the barriers to recovery from mental illness. Assertive Community Treatment teams provide: Psychiatric assessment, medication education and monitoring, treatment for co-occurring disorders, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, psychosocial services and education (including Wellness Management and Recovery, SAMSHA evidence-based IMR) and intervention help strengthen the individual's networks. Blended Case Management Services affords the collaborative coordination of services and resources supportive of recovery and growth. Individuals work with case managers to increase personal and financial independence, overcome barriers compromising access to treatment, build and expand capabilities in roles and relationships within the community and, acquire skills to support self-determination and self-management of the symptoms or challenges related to their illness.
