Job Summary:

The Surgery Center Nursing Assistant works under direction of nursing personnel to provide patient care while functioning as a nursing assistant and as a patient service representative. The Surgery Center Nursing Assistant task list includes but is not limited to:

  • Assist with prepping patients for surgery, setting up equipment, and getting the room ready for the next patient.
  • Take temperature, pulse, and blood pressure.
  • Set up rooms for patient admission.
  • Transport patients by bed, cart, or wheelchair.
  • Stock and supply patient care areas.
  • Assists with prepping of patient charts.
  • Responsible for answering calls (new patients, current patients, referring healthcare providers, etc.) regarding clinic operations and either handle or direct caller to the appropriate individual.
  • Schedules clinic appointments and enters information into a computerized schedule.
  • Collects payments, copays and deposits from patients at point of check in.
  • Updates patient information in practice management software.
  • Gathers, enters, and/or updates data to maintain clinic records and databases in an efficient, organized, and confidential manner; establishes and maintains files and records for the clinic.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts and maintains clinic patient flow.
  • Complies with organizational and HIPAA policies and regulations to ensure patient care is kept confidential.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and tasks as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as indicated.

(approximately 90% of time is spent completing tasks in OR/procedure area, and 10% at the check-in desk)

** Supervisory Responsibility:**

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

** Qualifications:**

  • High School Diploma or GED required. post-secondary education or prior healthcare experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum one year of proven strong customer service and phone skills with an exceptional ability to listen and communicate to others with working knowledge of quickly connecting with customers and employees.
  • Experience in a healthcare or insurance environment preferred.
  • CNA required.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to work well whether independently or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of basic office management and organization.

** Work Environment:**

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in an ambulatory surgery center setting.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk; sit; use hands to finger, grasp, handle, objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear. Employee must be able to sit for at least 20% of time and stand/move for up to 80% of time. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Compensation & Work Schedule:

  • Full-time: 40 hours/week
  • Non-Exempt
  • Day Shift: Monday - Friday; 8:00AM - 4:00PM
  • No evenings or weekends
