Job DescriptionJob DescriptionThe Meter Technician is responsible for performing a variety of skilled duties and responsibilities involved in the maintenance, repair, service, and installation of commercial and residential water meters; and to assist the public with water meter activities.
  • Provides customer service by answering questions, explaining how to read meters, rereading meters if needed, notifying customers of leaks, and connecting and disconnecting meters through work orders.
  • Conducts reading and re-reading of meters by operating handheld reading devices, exposing buried meters, reading and recording meter usage accurately, responding to request to repeat readings, testing for leaks, and re-reading meters.
  • Ensure proper meter operations through inspection of meters for unauthorized connections, defects, and damage, such as broken seals and perform general and routine maintenance of meters and meter parts including meter gaskets, curb stops and meter boxes.
  • Maintains meters and automated meter reading devices by replacing broken meter, repairing waters leaks by meters, repairing and/or replacing broken meter parts, installing and/or repairing automated meter reading devices, and raising and/or lowering meter boxes.
  • May assist Customer Service Clerks in payment management as needed.
  • Work is performed in various weather environments and will require walking and vehicle operations to perform meter technician duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Meter Technician I:
    1. A valid driver's license.
    2. One (1) year of experience involving the maintenance and repair of plumbing, meter reading equipment or other related equipment.
  3. Meter Technician II:
    1. A valid driver's license.
    2. Three (3) years of experience involving the maintenance and repair of plumbing, meter reading equipment or other related equipment.
    3. Obtain a Class "C" Distribution certification from Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within one year of employment
