We're in search of Laboratory Planners with expertise in technical planning for programming, design, fit-out planning, and equipment planning as part of our Science/Lab Planning practice.

Qualifications:
  • Demonstrates creativity, enthusiasm, and keen interest in designing and planning laboratories within technical facilities.
  • Understanding of technical and regulatory requirements for lab design.
  • Knowledge of lab programming delivery and how design impacts those systems - including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and casework.
  • Familiarity with lab planning, design, construction documents, construction administration, and project construction cost control for lab facilities.
  • Understanding of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to articulate lab planning requirements to designers and team members.
  • Team player with the ability to meet deadlines efficiently.
Responsibilities:
  • Offer advanced technical guidance in lab planning and programming for various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, and emerging science and engineering building types.
  • Provide technical planning expertise and leadership for lab facilities covering programming, design, fit-out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning, casework specification, and construction administration.
  • Guide and supervise junior staff, potentially participate in professional development reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Integrate Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with current and potential clients.
  • Engage in marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Staying abreast of the latest trends in designing and planning labs within technical facilities.
  • Active participation in the firm's Science + Technology Market.
  • Ensure document standards are adhered to and manage document archives appropriately.
  • Active involvement in industry associations for enhanced visibility.
  • Ensure a green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Promote a culture of excellent client service both internally and externally.
  • Participate in user group meetings to gather program requirements for lab specifications in technical facilities.
  • Understand clients' program requirements and standards comprehensively for project completion.
  • Aid in the design development, modification, and review of lab planning concepts and solutions.
  • Assist in defining project scope, plan, and services during the contracting process.
  • Translate planning concepts into understandable terms for clients, team members, and designers.
  • Develop architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction.
  • Prepare and revise architectural documents like elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • Proactively address technical and design challenges following established standards.
  • Apply appropriate QA/QC methods throughout projects.
  • Contribute to the development of standard materials describing the Science + Technology Group's portfolio, systems, processes, and people.
  • Establish project team software parameters and uphold standards.
  • Participate in the creation of 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and models for client/project team review.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
  • Technical expertise in lab planning and programming for various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, agbiotech, or other emerging technical facilities.
  • Licensure is desirable.
