NIST collaborates with industry and science to drive innovation and enhance quality of life. We are in search of an IT Specialist (AI) to join our dynamic team. This opportunity is granted under direct-hire authority to attract new talent to roles facing a critical shortage of candidates.

Responsibilities:

  • Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and insights for making informed business decisions in artificial intelligence projects.
  • Requirement Gathering: Work with stakeholders to comprehend their business requirements and translate them into clear, actionable AI solution specifications.
  • Solution Design: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to devise AI solutions that tackle business challenges in alignment with strategic objectives.
  • Model Evaluation: Assess the performance of AI models and algorithms to ensure they meet intended outcomes, making adjustments as needed.
  • Risk Assessment: Evaluate potential risks and ethical considerations related to AI initiatives, and offer recommendations to mitigate these risks.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Effectively convey complex AI concepts to non-technical stakeholders and engage with diverse teams to ensure successful AI solution implementation.
  • Project Management: Lead AI projects from inception to completion, including planning, monitoring progress, and ensuring timely delivery.

Basic Requirements:

  • Education: Possess a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree with a minimum of 24 semester hours in these fields that involved application/system/network development.
  • Experience: Demonstrate IT-related experience, showing proficiency in Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 level, involving development of processes, procedures, and requirements for Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) and Language Learning Models (LLMs) in business operations.
