POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Bioinformatics Programmer.

The Institute for Systems Genetics at the NYU School of Medicine is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic individual to manage and analyze data generated by Next-Generation DNA sequencers (Illumina, 454) in a DNA sequencing core Facility. This is a great opportunity to quickly acquire new skills, develop and publish new tools and methods, analyze challenging datasets and be a co-author on published studies.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop novel methods for multi-omics data analysis and integration
  • Perform robust data quality control and validation
  • Analyze various types of sequencing data analysis (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C-seq, bisulfite sequencing, whole-genome sequencing)
  • Work closely with bench scientists to understand and help accomplish their research goals
  • Integrate different types of genomics data and prepare concise presentations of computational results
  • Design, implement, execute standard pipelines for routine genomics data analyses, and customized pipelines for collaborative research projects
  • Perform robust data quality control and validation
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify you must have a Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Bioinformatics, System Biology, Computer Science or related field. Knowledge of biology and understanding of key and complex biological concepts (genes, pathways, microbial phylogeny and microbial ecology). Ability to work independently while collaborating and assisting the team in its common research goals. Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects is necessary. Candidates must have experience in Unix/Linux operating systems and shell scripting, and have experience with programming languages including Python, Perl and Java.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Strong computing skills and an interest in biological problems with training in a quantitative discipline (engineering, physics, mathematics, biophysics) preferred.
