Juvenile Justice Youth Development Specialist

The Department of Youth Services (DYS) is in search of dynamic individuals who are enthusiastic about service and their careers to join as Juvenile Justice Youth Development Specialist.

The **Juvenile Justice Youth Development Specialist** role involves working closely with young people involved in juvenile justice, most of whom are **years old**, in DYS residential facilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a direct and positive impact on the lives of troubled youths.

As a Juvenile Justice Youth Development Specialist, you will serve as frontline residential staff for youth under the care or custody of the Department. Your responsibilities will include working with youth to help them acquire essential knowledge and life skills that will enable them to become independent and responsible adults while ensuring the safety and security of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate as part of a team to oversee, supervise, and provide guidance, support, and advocacy to youth in their daily activities.
  • Serve as a role model to youth, assisting them in developing coping and life skills for a successful re-entry into the community.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and secure environment by conducting security measures and checks.
  • Observe and address the behavior of youth to prevent disturbances and ensure everyone's safety.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to establish rapport with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capacity to handle interactions with people under stress.
  • Capability to make quick decisions in emergency situations.
  • Proficient in gathering information and handling confidential data.
  • Successful completion of a Physical Ability Test (PAT).

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied shifts, weekends, holidays.
  • Ability to take direction and work under supervision.

Special Requirements:
  • Minimum Age Requirement: 21 years.
  • Must meet physical requirements of the job.
  • May need to possess a valid driver's license based on the assignment.
  • Certification in crisis intervention, CPR, AED, and first aid required.

Working Conditions:
  • Exposure to potentially confrontational environments.
  • May be required to physically restrain youth.
  • Standard 40-hour work week with potential for extended hours.
  • Travel may be required based on assignment.

Pre-Hire Process:
