HDR is looking for highly-motivated professionals with a passion for transit and transportation planning, our robust transportation planning practice.
This position would support HDR's portfolio of rail transportation planning, transit planning, and infrastructure finance engagements on the eastern seaboard with opportunities to contribute to work across North America.
This position requires an eagerness to learn all aspects of HDR's Transportation Planning practice, exquisite attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, quantitative agility, and desire to work in a team environment.
In the role of Transit Planner, you'll have the opportunity to:
Support the creation of technical reports, presentations, and other materials to document planning study findings (such as corridor studies)
Collect, assimilate and manage project-related data
Contribute to technical reports, presentations, and other materials for stakeholders and clients to document planning study and concept design findings
Assist in preparation and participation of public information meetings and hearings
Support the work of others in the completion of required studies, documents, and reports
Make active contributions to planning work sessions in conjunction with appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines
Participate in a variety of transportation planning projects including complete streets, transit planning, long-range planning, community planning, or concept development
Participate in corridor studies associated with FRA CID projects
Participate in corridor studies associated with FTA CIG projects
Assist in projects relating to emerging transportation technologies
Perform other duties as needed
Portfolio of Potential Project Types will Include:

Strategic Plans
Transit plans
Corridor studies
Statewide Rail Plans
State of Good Repair grant applications
CRISI grant applications
NEPA environmental clearance documents for rail and transit (i.e, Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments)
BRT and bus priority feasibility
Alternatives analyses for transit projects
Short and long-range transit and transportation plans
Transportation planning reports
Zero-emissions transition plans for transit agencies
Local, regional and statewide multimodal transportation plans
Transit-oriented development
Transit studies for multiple modes
Bicycle and pedestrian studies
Community engagement
Preferred Qualifications
2 years of relevant transportation and transit planning experience
Agility with Microsoft Office Suite, ESRI GIS Suite
Quantitative agility, especially with respect to basic economic concepts
Experience with design packages such as Adobe CS
Experience working on projects for with transit agencies, municipalities, state, and federal government organizations
Preference given to local candidates or candidates that have demonstrated prior local experience in DC, Maryland, or Virginia and willingness to live locally
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning or closely related field
Experience with Microsoft Office programs
Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
May require the ability to travel
