Job Summary
Performscomplex grounds maintenance tasks to ensure the upkeep of University groundsand related areas.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Plants trees, shrubs,flowers, and grass; trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and wallsusing clippers and edging tools; prunes shrubs and hedges to shape andimprove growth; and rakes and removes leaves.
  2. Cleans drainage ditchesand culverts; hauls debris to dumping area.
  3. Cuts lawns using handmower, power mowers, or tractors equipped with attachments.
  4. Picks up trash and debrisfrom campus grounds, streets, and walks.
  5. Sprays lawns, shrubs, andtrees with fertilizer or insecticide. Waters lawns and shrubs during dryperiods using hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler systems.
  6. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or general education degree(GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalentcombination of education and experience. Valid Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to work successfully as a member of a team and independently with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to learn office and university-specific software.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to obtain a driver's license prior to employment.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as necessary.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety requirements.
  • Knowledge of, or the ability to learn, University policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the planting and care of trees, shrubbery, flowers, and grass.
  • Skill in the use of grounds-keeping hand tools and equipment, in the operation of motorized and gas-operated equipment.
