Job Description:

  • This contractor position is part of the Pathology Group within Safety Assessment.
  • We are looking for a highly motivated and independent individual who will mainly focus on supporting necropsy activities with Safety Assessment.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recording scientific observations during gross examinations.
  • Excising, weighing, and fixating tissues during necropsy.
  • Maintaining study records.
  • Performing quality control of work and entering data into the department database.
  • Coordinating study logistics.
  • Additionally, executing and coordinating the logistics of pathology samples for non-clinical studies conducted at ***.

Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Setting up the lab.
  • Entering data into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Handling pre-clinical samples and preparing them for shipping.
  • Managing preserved tissue and preparing them for histology processing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive tasks like block inventorying.
  • Works effectively in a highly interactive team environment, demonstrating excellent collaborative and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps.

Skills Required:

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and interactive team setting.
  • Experience in animal handling and necropsy, with proficiency in comprehensive necropsy on rodents.
  • Visual acuity for examining small details during specimen examinations.
  • Capable of working independently to carry out tasks efficiently.
  • Adherence to established policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Capability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, management, and clients.

Education Requirements:

  • BS degree in animal sciences or related field with a minimum of 1-2 years experience in the described procedures.
  • AALAS certification is preferred.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication abilities.
  • Must be able to lift at least 15 lbs. Work hours align with business needs.
