Job Description:

Description: The Rad Technician Nuclear PRN provides technical expertise and assistance to support ancillary personnel. This position performs a variety of specialized technical nuclear medicine procedures for appropriate diagnosis and also assumes responsibility for designated areas and may be required to perform administrative tasks.

Typical Duties:

  1. Performs procedure as ordered and obtain images according to written protocols. Ensure patient procedure and supply charges are correct.
  2. Assists patient on/off exam table and from wheel chair or stretcher if needed. Obtain and record accurate patient history.
  3. Cleans and monitors equipment and report equipment problem/failure to Bio-Med or Manager.
  4. Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacture guidelines or department protocols; recognizes and take appropriate action for abnormal results (daily, weekly, or monthly). Performs daily crash cart quality analysis.
  5. Maintains yearly competency, mandatory District education, professional certification, state licensure, and education requirements.
  6. Ensures a safe and clean environment with all the necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam room.
  7. Receives, handle, store, prepare and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients according to prescribe dose or protocol and in compliance with QMP.
  8. Provides on call emergency coverage on a rotational basis. Responds to hospital within 30 minutes or prior to time of isotope delivery if dose not on site.
  9. Applies knowledge of department QMP, NRC and State rules, and radiation safety principles to ensure patient and staff safety for radiation protection to achieve radiation exposure ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable), for patients, self and others.
  10. Performs other related job duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Required Education and Experience: Graduate from AMA approved school preferred. Must be American Registry Radiology Technology (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) registered or eligible to take the boards (certified in 12 months upon hire). Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelors degree in Nuclear Medicine. 1 plus year of related work experience. Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Completion of ARRT/CNMT certified/eligible training in an AMA approved school. Certified by the registered upon hire or within 3 months of the hire date. Texas license is required. JPS recognized BLS certification and must be maintained throughout employment; may be obtained subsequent to hire.
