Description:
The BS program in Language & International Health (LIH) at Clemson University pairs core courses in advanced humanities in a target language and in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Majors in LIH frequently enter careers in public or global health or in a medical field, as doctors, nurses, or administrators. Many are interested in community-engaged learning; vulnerable communities; human rights; connections between health, sustainability, and the environment; health and the arts; social determinants of health; and related fields.
This is a limited-time position, renewable upon review up to three years. We seek candidates with interests in and meaningful connections to the Francophone world, especially Francophone West Africa. The selected candidate will teach three classes per semester, including two classes in LIH French over the year.
The first course introduces medical concepts and terminology in French, emphasizing everything from anatomy and disease to provider-patient relationships and health systems. The second is an advanced exploration of health with a broader focus on community health and development, rights, sustainability, or related topics. Remaining classes may include French language courses at the intermediate level, Contemporary Francophone Cultures, a self-designed course, or a course in a related department (such as Global Black Studies or Public Health).
The position requires minimum of a master's degree, but we also welcome applications from recent PhDs or ABDs. The Languages department provides support and advising for the J-1 professor or research scholar visas.

Qualifications:
Required: Master's or more advanced degree in a relevant humanities, social science, or medical field, in hand at start of appointment, August 2024
-Native or near-native proficiency in French and working competency in English
Desired: Previous teaching experience in higher education and/or clinical settings
-Willingness to create connections with communities abroad
