Position Overview:
Provides breastfeeding assistance and childbirth education programs to all applicable patients.

Facilitates lactation education, resources and support to patients and healthcare providers including nurses, mid-wives, physicians, educators, and social service personnel ensuring services provided are consistent with organizational policies, applicable research and current standards.

Delivers individual and classroom lactation education as needed. Evaluates specific lactation problems by telephone and develops a management and follow-up plan of care when indicated.

Supports both the Inpatient and Outpatient Lactation Center and must be available to work variable day shift hours to support the outpatient clinic hours of Job Description:

Provides education on basic breastfeeding techniques, treatment of breastfeeding complication, the use of breast pumps, and other lactation related issues, utilizing appropriate infection control practices.

Identifies, analyzes and formulates a plan of care based on approved protocols that result in the attainment of the breastfeeding mother's individual goals.

Directly assists clients with the use of breast pumps, both in the department and in the hospital; assists with breast pump problems; helps other staff members with client questions; assists with bra fittings as needed.

Conducts teaching of breastfeeding class or support groups.
Supports the development and implementation of the standards of care and guidelines for assisting breastfeeding mothers.

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:
RN-Registered Nurse of CaliforniaCLC-Certified Lactation ConsultantOR IBLCE-Certified Lactation ConsultantBLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
2 years recent relevant experience

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Maternal-infant assessment skills.
Organizational skills with ability to prioritize, problem solve and meet deadlines.
Interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to gather data to complete reports on a timely basis.
Written and verbal interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.

Pay Range is $79.37 to $104.76 / hourThe salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location.

This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled.

Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
