Position Available: Lead Operating Engineer (NARA I)

Summary of the Role: EMCOR Government Services is in search of a Lead Operating Engineer to deliver operational and maintenance support for the National Archives Building (NARA I) located in Washington, D.C. This role falls under the CBA for Local 99.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Report directly to Sr. Chief Operating Engineer/Chief Operating Engineer and NARA I Operations Manager as needed.
  • Supervise Local 99 lead operating engineers and other trades and/or subcontractors.
  • Handle service calls, scheduling, monitoring, and reporting of maintenance tasks.
  • Provide technical support for operations and maintenance activities.
  • Act as the Acting Chief Operating Engineer for NARA I whenever necessary.
  • Conduct inspections of assets and equipment, suggest enhancements based on industry standards, and estimate project costs for IDIQ work.
  • Oversee critical equipment, with a focus on central plants.
  • Be on-site and available 24/7/365 for critical operations as required.
  • Perform tasks related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heating equipment.
  • Inspect and carry out minor repairs on mechanical and electrical equipment of heating and air-conditioning systems.
  • Conduct physical inspections and testing of equipment for proper operation of various systems.
  • Address occupants' complaints related to Trades and Central Plant operations and report to management.
  • Support the safe and efficient operation of mechanical equipment, providing recommendations to management.
  • Develop procedures, train staff, and enforce standards as necessary.
  • Suggest operational changes to enhance the utilization of facilities equipment efficiently.
  • Submit detailed reports to management concerning all operations and maintenance activities.
  • Present updates on repairs, on-going IDIQ work, and scheduled tasks.
  • Complete any other assigned duties.
Requirements:
  • Mandatory - DC 3rd Class Steam Engineer License
  • Preferred - DC 1st Class Steam Engineer License
  • Prior experience as a watch supervisor.
  • Proficiency in HVAC systems.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on all operational and mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating electrical equipment and machinery.
  • Capability to read and interpret Blueprints, schematics, and specifications.
  • Practical knowledge of Chiller Plant and Building Air Systems operations.
  • Readiness to work in shifts.
Physical Requirements:
  • Engage in heavy physical tasks like lifting up to 50 lbs and pushing up to 100 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing/walking and handling of equipment and supplies.
  • Manual dexterity, mobility, and ability to perform various physical movements.
  • Reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch as needed.
