Summary:


The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) operates within the healthcare system following the American College of Nurse Midwives core competencies of Basic Midwifery Practice and Nurse Midwifery Standards.

The CNM collaborates with the healthcare team to deliver comprehensive care to pregnant and laboring women.

The CNM conducts assessments, diagnoses, manages, and evaluates care integrating women's psychosocial and physical needs.

The CNM takes histories, performs physical examinations to evaluate and coordinate patient care at the OB-GYN outpatient clinic, and provides labor and delivery care.

In partnership with physicians, nurses, and healthcare team members, the CNM ensures quality patient care for optimal outcomes.

The CNM collaborates with the OB/GYN Department Chairman, attending physicians, and OBGYN Clinic Office Manager(s).

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION
Required license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State preferred

Current certification as a Certified Nurse Midwife or Licensed Midwife required

Graduate of an accredited Nursing program or Masters Level Nurse Midwife program required.

Meets credentialing requirements through the Medical Staff office required.

BLS certification needed

NRP certification needed

Electronic Fetal Monitor (EFM) Certification within one year of hire required and compliance monitored by the Department.

EXPERIENCE
Preferential Nurse Midwife experience

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Ability to conduct accurate history & physical exams,

Precise interpretation of electronic fetal heart rate monitor.

Excellent written and Verbal communication skills

Ability to perform under pressure

Proficient computer skills

WORKING CONDITIONS
Standard working environment; typical of most office roles.

Occasional exposure to mildly unpleasant physical conditions.


Various pregnant patient types including high-risk and low-risk active labor patients, outpatients with different complaints, emergent and non-emergent.
